My thoughts...

Well for starters, I love nature and our giant blue and green planet, and I intend on pursuing a career that will make a positive impact on Earth for years and years to come as an Environmental Science teacher!
My...Obsession for helping the earth, and all living creatures has been a pretty constant thing. However, I'm not alone. Especially in recent years loving the environment has become a fad, Eco-friendly products, new habits and diet changes, and overall more understanding that us humans haven't been treating our home very well.

This is where my topic had risen, I am wanting to do research and find out how Veganism can help the environment?

I have my own opinion on the topic (that I shall share later) but I'm going to start by covering what Veganism is, perhaps differences between other lifestyles (i.e. Vegetarianism), how it is going to help the environment, and why even do it! I'm also thinking about adding how beneficial it could be and how to go about it.

I'm going to search for some documentaries (because I know that there are many) and see what else I can discover, such as online articles off of Google Scholar.
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2367646/#b37-ehp0116-000578 this article looks promising  I'm going to look into it more, and I realize I'm going to have to make sure I don't have a bias while looking into the research. https://www.ciwf.org.uk/includes/documents/cm_docs/2008/f/factory_farming_and_the_environment_1999.pdf this one appears long, but I could really use a good understanding of my topic, especially when starting out.

  1. This looks like a very promising subject. I can't wait to read your next blogs and hear your views more in depth. An interesting book to check out would be Fast Food Nation. Chapter nine focuses on the meat industry.

  2. I've only read about veganism, but I know it's a hard life choice to stick to. Or, at least for me it would be. So congrats to choosing that life style. I'd like to see your future posts & what research you find about whether or not veganism has an effect on our environment

  3. So if people choose to be vegan how do they get the protein their bodies need. I know a pro basketball player that is vegetarian and he has a hard time walking after 40 years of his diet due to lack of meat.

  4. Veganism is not that easy (but with dedication it can be reasonable.) Protein is an important thing your body needs, but there is a lot of misconceptions on what exactly has protein in it. Here is a list of quality foods that have quite a bit of protein (and are Vegan: Veggies (especially those dark leafy-greens), Lentils, Tofu, Tempeh, Non-dairy milk (Soy, Almond milk, Hemp milk, Rice milk...Etc), Nut butter, Quinoa, Beans, and Sprouted-grain bread. You can also add protein supplements to any diet if too worried about not getting enough protein, but that can even raise concerns...

As for your professional basketball playing friend, if he is not eating these at the intake needed for his body. Then yes that can affect him! But I also raise the question in defense of any past injuries..? Are you positive it's related to his diet..? Thank you for your comment, please feel free to ask anymore questions, I am afraid my blog is more about the environment and Veganism, rather than the diet itself.
